Drew Barrymore

 Drew Barrymore

Dakota Fanning's feet firmly on the ground

If you asked Drew Barrymore what she got up to as a 12-year-old, she'd probably spin a yarn about bourbon and cocaine. Ask 12-year-old Charlotte's Web star Dakota Fanning, and the vices are a little different.

"Nothing much," she says, peppily. "Just school and piano lessons and Spanish lessons. It's really an interesting language. I took the Mexican Spanish and the French Spanish and now I'm taking Sicilian which is the Spanish they speak in Europe."

Fanning has been home-schooled since she was 4, but the Spanish lessons were her idea. That should give you an idea of how precocious she is, if you haven't already had the pleasure of watching her on film.

So far she has won a Bafta for her role in I Am Sam, a second nomination for Man on Fire, and appeared genuinely terrified of the aliens in Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise.

Lucy Liu Interview, CodeName The Cleaner

We had a chance to talk to the very lovely Lucy Liu about her upcoming role in CodeName The Cleaners. A native New Yorker, Lucy Liu attended NYU and later received a Bachelor of Science degree in Asian Languages and Cultures from the University of Michigan. During her senior year at Michigan, she auditioned for a student theater production of Andre Gregory's adaptation of "Alice in Wonderland." Hoping to be cast in a supporting role, Liu was instead cast as the lead. Her acting career was born.

Liu's blossoming film career was thrust into over-drive when she starred with Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore in Columbia Tri-Star's blockbuster hit, Charlie's Angels, and its sequel, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle. Liu's career was further solidified when she starred opposite Uma Thurman in Quentin Tarantino's critically acclaimed film for Miramax, Kill Bill: Volume I and in the second installment, Kill Bill: Volume II.

Love Lily Allen Is Like Barrymore

COURTNEY LOVE has hailed British pop star LILY ALLEN the new DREW BARRYMORE, after meeting the singer as a child. Ex-HOLE rocker Love met Allen at a London celebrity hangout in 1996, and found herself charmed by the then 11-year-old, comparing her maturity to former child star Barrymore's. She says, "(Lily) was hanging out at the Groucho Club with her mum. She wasn't bratty at all, she was like a really nice kid. "I remember like I remember Drew before I was friends with her - it's not like she had big boobs or anything early, but she was sort of like 40 when she was 11, and a really sweet little girl." 15/12/2006 17:42
