 Rosario Dawson

Top Five Movie Musicals

In honour of Dreamgirls, opening Christmas Day, we count down the Top Five movie musicals that fill our heads with catchy tunes and our hearts with glee.

- Rent (2005)
Cast: Anthony Rapp, Adam Pascal, Rosario Dawson, Jesse L. Martin, Idina Menzel, Wilson Jermaine Heredia, Tracie Thoms, and Taye Diggs

Plot: This is the film adaptation of Jonathan Larson's musical, in which a group of friends struggle with love, loss and AIDS in New York.

Singing Its Praises: Rent tackles some pretty tough issues and still manages to make us smile. Plus, even when he's playing a despicable sell-out, Taye Diggs is dreamy.

- Grease (1978)
Cast: John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John
Plot: Bad-ass Danny and goody-two-shoes Sandy kiss their summer lovin' goodbye and assume they'll never see each other again — until they find themselves attending the same high school come fall.

Rosario Dawson on Golden Globes

Rosario Dawson joined celebrities Jessica Biel and Matthew Perry in announcing the Golden Globe nominations the morning of December 14. Although she did not receive any nominations for her films, she was happy to see so many Spanish language films receiving props, like Volver and Pan's Labyrinth.

Rosario Dawson Talks Golden Globe Noms
"I think it's fantastic actually," she said. "I remember I went to see Pan's Labyrinth and I was like, you know, they're doing such incredible things and risky stuff with even a children's story, just really going there and exploring myth and exploring violence and exploring all the different things that used to be a part of a lot of old children's stories and stuff like that but we kind of diluted it down. The only reason they could do half the things in that movie was because it wasn't made in America.

City Lights Descends on Dawson Drama

City Lights Pictures Releasing has acquired the domestic theatrical distribution rights to producer and actor Rosario Dawson's drama Descent. The haunting story stars Dawson as a college student who tries to recover from a date rape. She eventually decides to take revenge on her attacker (Chad Faust) in a graphic and controversial manner. City Lights says they are prepared to release first-time director Talia Lugacy's film unrated or even NC-17.

They're Heeeere: Golden Globe Nominations

The Golden Globes were announced at 5AM PST this morning (why do they do these things at the crack of dawn, again?), and, well, are you as excited as I am? Jessica Biel, Rosario Dawson and Matthew Perry (why are the stars who announce the noms always so random?) joined Hollywood Foreign Press Association President Philip Berk and told us who was nominated in each category. Of course, the Globes are important because they usually (not always) foreshadow the Oscars. It's also a unique awards ceremony because they honor the year's best in both film and television -- however, here at Cinematical we're only concerned with the film nominations. Those are you interested in the television side are welcome to head on over to our sister site, TV Squad, for all that info.

As expected, Jennifer Hudson took home a nod for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the upcoming Dreamgirls.
